Pizza Hut Signature Series - Pesto Gusto & Wild About Mushrooms

So my darling wife and I were headed home from a check-up one day and we decided to grab some makan before making our way back home. We were actually at a loss and didn't know what to eat.
And then we remembered something special cooking at Pizza Hut.

The Pizza Hut Signature Series is a special range of pizzas which features a special "hand-stretched thin crust" topped with some special toppings for our makan delight.

They had 5 special pizzas.
We decided to try the 2 which seemed like the ones we would enjoy the most.

Pesto Gusto

Pesto Gusto is a pesto-based pizza. It also includes BBQ chicken slices, cherry tomatoes and also almond flakes. And of course - Cheese!

Well, this definitely counts as a unique pizza created specially for this Signature Series but I'm not so sure I quite enjoyed it... I guess the pesto base was not bad and a change from the usual tomato sauce-based pizzas we are so accustomed to. Maybe that's what the cherry tomatoes were for?

I personally felt that the worse part of this pizza was the BBQ chicken slices.
They were pretty tasteless and were actually sliced a little bit too thick maybe?

Wild About Mushrooms

Now this was definitely a pizza I quite preferred.
Most probably because I am literally Wild About Mushrooms!

Here you have a cream-based pizza with truffled mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, arugula (aka rocket).
This pizza actually has 3 of my fave things to eat - mushrooms, cheese and Arugula.
I am so the Mushrooms and Arugula guy by the way.

The mushrooms did have a hint of the truffle oil and definitely had a nice woody and earthy flavour to them. I quite like them this way but I can imagine a few who might not enjoy such a strong mushroom flavour. Again the cherry tomatoes did nothing for me and the cream base went well.

But I must say... A little stingy with the Rocket are we eh Pizza Hut???

Okay so anyways between the 2 pizzas it was actually not too bad.
You can also choose Seafood Symphony (Scallops, Prawns and Squid), Tropical Dream (Chicken Ham, Pineapple and Cream Cheese) or Pumpkin Garden (Pumpkin, Shimeji mushrooms and Cream Cheese).

But there's something else I'd like to point out...

Hand-stretched is one thing but I thought they said this was gonna be a THIN CRUST???
That doesn't look very thin to me buddy.

Adam's Verdict:
Pesto Gusto 2/5 --  Wild About Mushrooms 3/5
Maryah's Verdict:
Pesto Gusto 2.5/5
You can order a meal for 2 which comes with a pizza plus some extras for $28.
A meal for 4 is $48 or you can order the Hand-stretched pizzas a la carte for $19.90.

Pink Of Roses ($26.00)
The Pink Of Roses cakes is a definite choice for mums who LOVE CHOCOLATE!!
It looks pink on the outside but underneath the fresh cream roses, you'll find a luscious chocolate sponge cake covered with a rich chocolate ganache.

Mouth watering yet? (Cos mine is!)
Cake weighs approximately 600g by the way.

Abundance of Love ($48.40)
The one got to personally try is called Abundance of Love and I think you can see why!
This cake is packo full of goodies and a little of bit of something for everyone to enjoy!
Let me give you a better view...

Whoa! Take a look at that!

Peach slices, Strawberries, Kiwi, Gooseberries and white chocolate flowers on top!
The sides of the cakes are lined with white chocolate 'wooden planks' so it looks like you're delivering a box of flowers and fruits to mum! Creative or what!

The cake itself is a moist Vanilla sponge with Salted Caramel Cream, almond flakes and chocolate pearls to give it a little bit more bite. This one weighs about 1.2kg.

I quite actually enjoyed the cake. I guess it's a break from the usual chocolate cakes we normally have so it's nice to have a bit of variety. Lots of new and unique cakes out there nowadays and this is definitely one of them!

Hei Sushi

Hei Sushi, Singapore's 1st Halal Sushi Belt Restaurant, is a firm favourite whenever we feel like having some good quality Sushi at affordable prices. And of course, it is still the #1 name when it comes to Halal sushi on a conveyor belt (we lovvveeee the conveyor belt!).

Did you know that they actually had 4 resturants?
One at Downtown East, one at Sembawang Shopping Centre, one at the Sakae Building in Tai Seng and also one at IMM. Of all the 4, we've only been to the on at Downtown Eat since we are based in the East.

But there's good news - a 5th restaurant is now open at Bedok Point!!
And on top of that, they've also refreshed their menu with lots of favourites and also some new and creative offerings to satisfy your cravings!!

 Let's start slow...

Chilled Spicy Asari ($2.38)
Are you big fans of clams like we are? Then you're gonna love this!
It's such a simple dish of clams in some flavoured dark sauce and given a bit of a spicy kick with chilli padi (which you can see there).

Definitely a good start!

Wagyu Cheese Neta ($4.38)
I dedicate this dish to my good friend Mr Firdhaus Jab who first texted me about this dish a few months ago. And it is fantastic.

So it's basically a Fried Maki on the bottom with some cheese and then topped off with some Wagyu Beef in sweet soy sauce. Sounds familiar?

They call it the Wagyu Cheese Neta but I call it the CHEESEBURGER SUSHI!!
And it's really delicious! I think I can keep wolfing these down non-stop! That Wagyu Beef is simply the bomb I tell you!

Sunshine Maki ($8.88)
A nice and crispy Fried Breaded Ebi (Prawn) wrapped up in a maki and topped-off with slices of mango! We've also tried the Dragon Roll Maki which has Avocado!

Definitely one of the more interesting bites at Hei Sushi!

Soft Shell Ebi ($4.88)
If your taste is for things a little more simple and traditional, then don't worry!
This is a soft shell prawn that they coat and deep fry to a prefect crisp! It's cooked through and the soft shell means you can pop the whole prawn in your mouth and eat it all! Head, shell and all!!

Shake Sashimi ($9.38)
And of course, there is the all-time favourite - Sashimi!

We are talking about premium slices of fresh Sashimi here! If salmon is not enough for you, then you have other choices too like Ika (squid), Kaki (oyster), Tako (octopus), Mekajiki (Swordfish), Hamachi (Yellowtail) and Maguro (Tuna)!

Hot Bean Hotate ($7.38 for 2 pieces)
Here is another must-try! Some Yakimono for you!

Scallop smothered in a hot bean paste and given a nice brulee so you have a nice charred layer on top.
The paste itself has actually got a nice spicy kick to it and kind of reminded me of Ikan Pari Bakar to a certain extent.

Unagi Yanagawa ($17.88)
Here's one for you to share.
Unagi (River eel) in a hotplate with some vegetables and egg. I'm not much of an Unagi guy but I know some people who definitely are!

Aji Shioyaki (Grilled Jack Mackerel) ($18.88)
This was probably my favourite dish of all the stuff we tried. And boy did we try a lot!
Everything was delicious but I guess sometimes I enjoy the simple things the most.

Here's an air-flown Jack Mackerel that they season simply with some salt and then grill it to sheer perfection and you just end up picking at it over and over again with your chopsticks. No fishy taste to be found here, only simple delicious grilled fish!

Just look at how perfect it is!

Spicy Shake Baked Rice ($4.88)
One of the newer sections in the menu is the Mini Baked Rice.
We tried the Spicy Shake (Salmon) Baked Rice which was delightful. There's a nice creamy cheesy layer on top but don't expect any cream mixed in with the rice okay.

And if salmon is not your thing, they also have Scallop, Eel, Soft Shell Crab and Sashimi Baked Rice for your dining pleasure!

Wagyu Ramen ($17.88)
Looking for something a little more hearty and soupy?
It's Ramen time!

The Wagyu Ramen was excellent and the beef was super tender. Tasty! And you have a choice of the flavour of soup stock for your Ramen! Choose from either Chicken, Curry or Kimchi!

Zarigani Udon ($16.88)
Another new section in the menu you'll notice is the Fusion Udon section.
They still have the traditional Udon and Soba dishes but if you're looking to try something new, then you'll definitely want to try some of these new dishes!

The Zarigani (Crayfish) Udon was actually my Brother's fave dish of the whole visit.
He literally cleaned the plate! That is how tasty it was! Black pepper crayfish with a creamy Udon so you can see how one might enjoy!

Check out the rest of their Fusion Udon dishes too!

Mango Avocado Milkshake ($4.98)
I decided to wash down my massive meal with a Mango Avocado Milkshake.
This really hit the spot and was so refreshing! And it was not too sweet so I was still able to savour the flavours of my food.

Hei Sushi's new menu has lots to choose from.
Sashimi, Salads, Sushi (Makimono, Nigiri, Gunkan, Aburi, Neta, Temaki, Inari), Tempura, Agemono, Yakimono, Ju, Ramen, Baked Rice, Soba, Udon, Nabemono, Habachi, Desserts and even Kiddy Sets!
And of course, you can always sit at the conveyor belt and take your pick of what comes along which is always a fun part of eating at a sushi restaurant.

Japanese cuisine is definitely one of our faves and we can see that it's really caught on as well. Thankfully we have Hei Sushi to bring us a wide spread of Halal Japanese food!

Visit their newest restaurant at Bedok Point today and bring your friends and family as well!
And don't forget the Wasabi!!

Bedok Point - 3 Years And Still Going Strong!

Can you believe it's already been 3 years since Bedok Point opened?
It seems like much shorter!

I literally grew up in Bedok having attended both Primary and Secondary school in the area and I spent so much time in Bedok that I pretty much knew the place like the back of my hand. I remember when the same plot where Bedok Point now stands used to be a theatre. And later on, it changed to some Japanese Sushi place. And finally, the original building made way for an icon of Bedok.

I still remember when Bedok Point opened to much fanfare back in the day. Finally, Bedok had it's own shopping centre! And situated right in the heart of Bedok made it all the more accessible to everyone! And now, 3 years later, it's still standing strong!

Bedok Point has always been known as a 'Makan Paradise' because a lot of the shops within are actually restaurants and eateries! You can find all kinds of cuisine at Bedok Point and luckily for us, quite a number of Halal choices too and a very welcome new edition!!

Hei Sushi is the first Halal certified Sushi Belt Restaurant in Singapore and they have finally opened an outlet in Bedok Point! On top of that, they also have an all-new menu for your makan-ing pleasure! We had the opportunity to try out some of the new dishes and they were so good that we decided to give Hei Sushi their own post!! Look out for it in the next few days!

And as a special for the Bedok Point outlet, they also have a special Lunchtime offer!!

And only available at Bedok Point!! Visit between Monday-Friday 11.30am to 2.30pm (starting from 21 April 2014) to enjoy this special promo lunch offer!

But if you want to sample something special, check out our Hei Sushi post out in a few days okay :)

The Manhattan Fish Market has definitely expanded!! Check out their restaurant at Bedok Point for their siganture dishes such as their Garlic Herb Mussels, Seafood Platters and their famous Manhattan Flaming Prawns!

Wanna know more about some of the dishes they have?
Check out our original review on The Manhattan Fish Market by clicking HERE

"Popeye's Chicken is the shiznit!!"
That's right! Head down to Bedok Point and grab some of your favourite Louisiana Chicken.
And of course - the Mashed Potatoes and Biscuits!!

Looking for your pasta fix? Pastamania is the place to go!

With a wide array of Pastas, Pizzas and desserts to suit your taste, this is definitely a fave with a lot of people! (I always have the Turkey Bacon Cheesy Crumble!!!)

And if you're just looking for a quick and light bite, why not grab some OCK?
Old Chang Kee Currypuffs, Sotong Balls, Popiah and so many other assorted deep fried goodies await you! Great to buy as a snack back to the office after lunch time!

As you can see, there's plenty of choices for us at Bedok Point!
And they even make it easy for us with a FREE SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE!!
Great if you're working in the area!!

As you can see, there's no excuse not to visit Bedok Point especially for a lunchtime getaway if you're working in the area! Anyways it's also near the Bedok MRT and Bus Interchange so it's walking distance!!

Congratulations to Bedok Point on reaching a milestone with the 3rd anniversary and here's to many more years to come with more great makan!!
